There's no "hard" option on FreeBSD.
I tried having a Linux box deliver to the same NFS mounted directory and
the corruption was much worse than with just FreeBSD boxes. I'll try the
"hard" option on Linux.
But as far as FreeBSD goes, the dotlocking is broken :(

I presume since you said that only dotlocking is enabled that these
are "nolock" NFS mounts? Are they also "hard" mounts? Even
procmail's careful lock file creation algorithm is not guaranteed to
work on a "soft" mount.
I had this problem for some years too.
If you mount the NFS-Share, you NEED the option "hard".
I personaly use:
samba3:/home /home nfs rw,bg,hard,intr,tcp,vers=3,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0
