No need to use MAILDIR there, but if you do, then put a slash
after it.
(So don't put a slash at the end of $MAILDIR itself.)

Not sure I follow. I use the slash so procmail will deliver the
message to a Maildir/ style folder instead of mbox.

he means do

${MAILDIR}/.fedora-devel-list/

or

.fedora-devel-list/

and define MAILDIR like

MAILDIR=/home/user/Mail

and NOT

MAILDIR=/home/user/Mail/

(I'm not sure why, but I've 'known' Ruud long enough that if he says
it and I don't immediately object, I just do it.)

My question is about the leading period in the path.

in the maildir for my test account I have the following:

2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  7 14:02 .Drafts
2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Oct  4  2006 .Junk
2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  6 22:38 .SPAM
2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 May 31  2006 .Sent
2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jan 13  2006 .Test
2 drwx------   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Feb  4  2006 .Trash
2 drwxr-xr-x   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  6 22:42 .procmail
2 drwx------   5 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  2 22:24 SPAM
2 drwx------   2 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  2 20:41
courierimapkeywords
2 -rw-r--r--   1 vpopmail  postfix    79 Oct  4  2006
courierimapsubscribed
2 -rw-r--r--   1 vpopmail  postfix   344 Jun  2 20:16 courierimapuiddb
2 drwx------   2 vpopmail  postfix  1024 Jun  2 20:41 cur
2 drwx------   2 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  2 18:43 new
2 drwx------   5 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  6 22:52 procmail
2 drwxr-xr-x   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  6 22:42 sa-learn-ham
2 drwxr-xr-x   6 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  6 22:42 sa-learn-spam
2 drwx------   2 vpopmail  postfix   512 Jun  7 00:55 tmp

Any idea why there is a .SPAM and a SPAM and a .procmail and a procmail?

it's a bit odd to me, all the '.' mailboxes show up as sub-folders of
my Inbox in mail.app instead of as separate folders. Not that it
matters, it's just something to get used to.
