Scope of the PTR mechanism

2003-10-29 05:24:26
It's not completely clear in draft-02 whether an additional hierarchy of
subdomains affects anything.

If the rule is "v=spf1 ptr:example.com default=deny" will it be allowed
if the validated PTR of the sending server is "mx1.us.example.com"?

I'm assuming yes.

"Ending" means the matching hostname and the specified domain-name
must share a "."-level boundary. If a hostname is
   "qux.my-example.com" and the specified domain-name is "example.com",
there is no match. There is a match if the hostname is
"qux.example.com". There is also a match if the hostname is simply
   "example.com".

Perhaps the additional inclusion of "baz.qux.example.com" might be of value?
