Hey, guys, I just realized I'm seeing Eric Allman tomorrow night,
so it would be really useful if someone could test the Milter
against the latest version of Mail::SPF::Query available at
http://spf.pobox.com/Mail-SPF-Query-1.7pre3.tar.gz
The milter is at
http://spf.pobox.com/sendmail-milter-spf-1.0.pl
The API should be compatible but I don't want any surprises.
If you can figure out a way to prepend headers, it would be really
interesting to see Received-SPF and X-SPF-Guess headers. I've been
putting those headers in my messages and it's a lot of fun. X-SPF-Guess
is a fantastic false-positive detector. The only time it's wrong, the
domain is already in a bunch of blacklists anyway:
Received-SPF: unknown: domain of
b(_dot_)platinummember(_dot_)0-26331aa-3170(_dot_)wywy(_dot_)com(_dot_)-yyyyy(_at_)13(_dot_)pn04(_dot_)com
does not designate permitted senders
X-SPF-Guess: pass: best guess: seems reasonable for
b(_dot_)platinummember(_dot_)0-26331aa-3170(_dot_)wywy(_dot_)com(_dot_)-yyyyy(_at_)13(_dot_)pn04(_dot_)com
to mail through 69.6.27.62
X-Pobox-Antispam: dnsbl/blackholes.easynet.nl returned DENY: for
69.6.27.62(13.opn03.com)
X-Pobox-Antispam: dnsbl/sbl.spamhaus.org returned DENY: for
69.6.27.62(13.opn03.com)
X-Pobox-Antispam: rhsbl/bulk.rhs.mailpolice.com returned DENY: found
13.pn04.com
X-Pobox-Antispam: rhsbl/spamdomains.blackholes.easynet.nl returned DENY:
found 13.pn04.com
The core mechanisms for SPF have stabilized: A MX PTR.
The new macro magic introduced by Philip Gladstone is moving like a
whirlwind through the other mechanisms, and when things die down, we
can expect that
rhs
ptrhs
localpart
pi
will be replaced by
exists
exec
I only expect very unusual domains to use those mechanisms anyway so
most people should feel free to keep publishing records using a, mx, and
ptr.
