yeah, thanks for the note. leave a PTR record out for five minutes and
everybody negative-caches it for who knows how long.
24 hours, to be exact (86400 seconds). See
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=124.65.216.in-addr.arpa&type=SOA
. maxim.net has the reverse DNS entries for 216.65.124.0/24 set to have a
24-hour negative TTL. So if the PTR record is removed for 5 minutes, any
DNS server that accesses the PTR record during those 5 minutes will see no
reverse DNS entry for 24 hours. To shorten it, the MINIMUM value in the
SOA record for 124.65.216.in-addr.arpa needs to be set to a lower value.
