Hi I have been processing SPF Records since few days and encountered some
common
Mistakes in most of the records.
1. Most of the records use include mechanism which does not point to
any SPF Record.
2. In mechanism 'a', sometimes arguments like ip-address or simply host
name is found e.g. a:red or a:192.168.0.1.
. Mechanism 'ip4' is some written as ipv4 or ip or some time I have seen
only ip-address is written or "v=spf1 mx ptr
ip4:198.49.180.128/255.255.255.192 ip4:199.165.223.128/255.255.255.192
ip4:128.251.9.64/255.255.255.192 -all"
3. Too much recursive 'include' records are found. These kinds of
records only ends to 'unknown' result rather than helping to mark mail good
or bad.
4. Often records like these are also encountered
a. "usemail.com. IN TXT \"v=spf1 a mx -all\""
b. "v=spf1" "a" "mx" "ptr" "include:cyberlynk.net" "~all"
c. "\"v=spf1 a mx ip4:65.213.144.0/24 ip4:65.213.145.0/24
ip4:65.213.146.0/24 ip4:65.213.147.0/24 -all\""
Which are most of the times not understood by SPF parsers.
5. I have seen records including mechanism after 'all' mechanism. like
a. v=spf1 ip4:63.121.54.230 a:fw.pqbs.com/22 ptr mx:pqbs.com/22
include:pqbs.com -all a:smtp.1und1.de/32
Thanks.
Shoaib.
