I want to be able to search all of
the <elemC> nodes for the occurrence of a searchstring
do you mean the text of elemC contains the string or equals it (I'll
assume the latter below)
<xsl:copy-of select="/elemA/elemB[elemC=$string]/elemC[1]"/>
