Is it possible, proceeding according to your 2nd alternative
(below), to pass more than one value for one and the same parameter?

The values of the request parameters are passed as strings, so the
only way to pass more than one value is to have a delimited string.
For example:

   .../search?search=a,b

would pass the value "a,b" as the value of the $search parameter. You
could then split that string up in order to process it.

But try it out -- it might be that you can do:

   .../search?search=a&search=b

and the $search parameter be set to a node set containing two text
nodes whose values are 'a' and 'b' respectively, but frankly I doubt
it.
