if of course you always have children with element in their local-name.
otherwise you can try using just "." instead of "element." in

I need to transform an element value to an attribute value:
input:
<element>
<element.name>hello</element.name>
</element>
output:
<element name="hello"/>
I have no idea ho to refer the element's value in an xsl:template
Thank you, Endre
can also try the following:
<xsl:template match="element/*">
<element name="substring-after(local-name(),'element.')">
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
</element>
</xsl:template>
if of course you always have children with element in their local-name.
