<xsl:value-of select="root/persons/person[id=person_id]/name" />
<xsl:value-of select="root/persons/person[id = current()/person_id]/name" />
You might want to consider defining a key
<xsl:key name="person" match="person" use="id()" />
and then you could just do
<xsl:value-of select="key('person', person_id)/name" />
