What does empty mean?

2003-06-26 00:44:28
In XSLT 2 there is a function called empty.
http://www.w3.org/TR/xquery-operators/#func-empty

http://www.dpawson.co.uk/xsl/sect2/N3328.html#d3377e58
Defines two or three meanings for empty,

Contains no child nodes: not(node()) <empty/>

Contains no text content: not(string(.)) <empty></empty>

Contains no text other than whitespace: not(normalize-space(.)) <empty>
</empty>

Contains nothing except comments: not(node()[not(self::comment())])
 <empty><!-- comment --></empty>

Which would you assume it meant?
