Either of these can be used to evaluate any condition expressible in XPath
-- the presence or absence of a node of a given kind (by name, type,
content) is definitely possible (we do it all the time).
For example, <xsl:if test="child::para"> tests true if there is an element
node named "para" inside the context node (i.e. a child of it). This can
also be written test="para".
If you send a sample of source XML and desired output, possibly with some
XSLT code you have (almost) working, we can be more specific.
