It will never replace '&' into '' if I have -- translate(item, 'amp;', '');
yes it will (did you try)
"Food & Drink" is what I have in the xml file.
If you just have that your XML file will have a fatal parse error from
any XML parser so won't be usable by XSLT (or anything else)
your XML file must have that & escaped either by
Food & Drink
or equivalet methods such as <![CDATA[Food & Drink]]>
