It does work.

From the tenor of your questions I gather you are using the readily available
stylesheets for Docbook rather than ones you've written yourself.  In which case
you should rather look at the documentation for those stylesheets.

You aren't getting an answer you can understand because you are working one
level up from the level this list is typically concerned with.

yes exactly. That's the usual situation.

  And the only solution should be to add a spécific tag at the

??? Why would you need to modify your source?

Just find the template that is making the main fo:page-sequence
and change it so that it looks like
.....
<fo:block id="last-page"/>
</fo:page-sequence.

and then you'll know that your last fo:block has an id of
last-page
won't you?
