Yes, it does for me ... I'm assuming you tried it and it didn't work for
you, so I created the two test files below for you to run in your
environment.
The first one puts the output in the default UTF-8, while the second one
puts it out in Latin 1. Using the "ü" character is high enough in the
Latin 1 character set to trigger a two-character output in UTF-8.
I can't think of why your tests in your environment would not have produced
the desired results.
