You maintain the count in your calling application, the one that is
invoking the transformations, and you pass it to the stylesheet as a
parameter.

Subject: [xsl] Treating a source document differently
depending on the number of passes

Hi,
I would like to run a document several times through a worksheet. How
could I note the number of passes within the document?
Would process instructions be the right places? How do I handle this
technically?
Regards
Tim
