RE: Landscape print control

Bob,

Thank you, Andrew. That, unfortunately, is the answer that I expected. I

boundaries of xslt. I just started using it two weeks ago.

Welcome to the world of XSL.

Now, if HTML were a display language designed for print output, it might have some kind of control for portrait-vs.-landscape; but it isn't (notwithstanding all the printing folks do from browsers), and it doesn't. If HTML did have such a control, XSLT could generate that code just as it can generate any other HTML (to XSLT, HTML is just another target tag set).

Thus, the problem is out of scope not because of a limitation of XSLT, but rather of the target format in this case (HTML).

One reason XSL-FO comes into the picture is that it *is* such a language. But if users want just to hit "print" on their browser, a whole pipeline to generate print-friendly output (PDF or whatever) may be overkill. It depends.

Cheers,
Wendell
