Re: xsl:element name value with Attribute Value Template at run-time

Sorry, silly mistake on my side.

The reason why l want a global variable for an element name is that the
stylesheet compares two xml documents, and displays the results in an
xml document. A program will read in the xml document, and l would like
to ensure that the elements that it will be looking for exist with the
same name.

Thanks.

That selects the foo child element of the current node (which is teh
document node of your input document) so unless the top level element
in
your input is foo this will be empty.

It sounds like you want the string foo which is

<xsl:variable name="elementName" value="'foo'"/>

But there isn't a lot of point using a global variable witha fixed
string definition like that in

    <xsl:element name="{$elementName}">

As it could more easily be written
<foo>
