Thanks. I'll take a look at Dimitre's solution. My goal is to make it
processor-independent as I tend to switch processors from time to time,
so I'm trying to steer clear of extensions for this one.

Hi Tim
I've developed a stylesheet to reformat text into a fixed
width, suitable for inclusion in text output transforms.
It works fine, except sometimes a line will go longer than
the max allowed length. Could someone please help me
isolate where my problem lies?
Dimitre has done it before, if that's any help?

If you don't mind extensions, Eric did it for java
http://www.dpawson.co.uk/xsl/sect4/N10096.html
which I must update, since I've converted it from xt to use saxon.
