In saxon there is an extension function called saxon:parse. I have never used
it but it sounds like it might be what you want.

Subject: [xsl] method of converting xml string to xml nodes
Hi all,
Should anyone know a trick to convert xml string to xml nodes?
In fact, for my application i provide a textarea form to a visitor for
keyboarding an XUpdate document. I need to treat this field within my
stylesheet as a xml document, not only as a string.
I browsed xsl list archives and then remarked that this question appeared on
Thu, 7 Nov 2002. according to these archives, the only way to solve the
problem is to write an extension function.
should anyone has such extension?
any suggestion is welcome.
thanks in advance,
Regards
