will it matter if I have a row element is a different
item in my xml? I suppose it would so I should use my
xpath.
Thanks Buddy!

I am calling it as follows.
I thought you might be:-)
<xsl:template match="/">
so here the current node is the root node.
and that is still the case here
<xsl:call-template name="summaryTable"/>
so you need to use any XPath's relative to that so
header/row/total_due
not just total_due
Or perhaps simpler change
<xsl:template name="summaryTable">
to
<xsl:template match="row">
and change
<xsl:call-template name="summaryTable"/>
to
<xsl:apply-templates select="header/row"/>
so that the current node when your template is
executed is the row node.
