Re: XPATH: how to get position of child-elementTAG ? (order of elemenTAGs, not of element)

2005-08-16 04:05:01

I would like to check, if the name of the second element of root is
"youngestSon".

Note that the root of the tree is not the top level element (parent
here) but a root node (document) node that is the parent of that
element.

the XPath /parent/*[2][self::youngestSon] will return a non empty result just
in the case that the second element is a youngestSon element. (XPath has
no access to the tags in the document, so the subject line of this
thread is misleading)
