George, thanx. This makes an opportunity for me to look into XML Schema or
RelaxNG. BTW, since I assume you have something to do w/ oxygenxml (you
make its announcements here), want to tell you I tried its Eclipse plugin
recently ... and thus far it works great!

No, you cannot do that with DTDs.

Yes, look at simpleType/restriction/enumeration for XML Schema and
choice/value for Relax NG.
