My goal is as follows:
to process child::subset1 and all descendants in stylesheet A only.
to process child::subset2 and all descendants in stylesheet B only.
to process child::subset3 and all descendants in stylesheet C only.
You can't do that in pure XSLT. apply-imports only refers to the
immediately applied template. When that template itself calls
apply-templates the whole (importing) stylesheet will be used.
You can use extension functions in saxon to escape to java and then
run a separate transform using a separately specified stylesheet rather
than using xsl:import.
