Yes, for sure. This was a typo.

<xsl:template name="logfile">
  <xsl;param name="pmode"/>
and
   <xsl:call-template name="logfile">
    <xsl:with-param name="pmode" select="$pmode"/>

That did it. Thank you very much. But i guess i'm far from real
understanding of how parameters and variables work in xslt.

Variables in XSLT have lexical scope, they are only usable in the
following sibling elements (and their descendants) of the xsl:variable element
on which they are defined.

Also you're solution works pretty good i tried to declare the param on
top-level, but doing this i'm not able to use <xsl:with-param>. I
wonder if it is possible in xslt to declare "global" variables/params
that can be access everywhere in the stylesheet?
