[xsl] User defined function with variable number of arguments

Dear All

Can anyone confirm my understanding that in XSLT and XQuery I cannot create 
a function with a variable number of arguments, similar to the XPath 
concat() function?
At the moment I'm using as="item()*" and passing a sequence 
myFunction((<args here>)) but I would like to get rid of the extra 
parentheses if possible.
