Re: [xsl] sort by xsl:if and then sort using templates?

Michael,

Thank you for your reply. I agree with your opinion.

I found it a bit difficult to learn what apply-templates means by simply
reading the tutorial online.

The meaning is much deeper and requires an understanding of related XSLT
elements like templates and XPath and how they
correlate.

I'm now reading Beginning XSLT2.0 and I also have your reference books on
XSLT2.0 and XPath2.0.
These books cover concepts in greater detail.

Certain features of XSLT and XPath like <xsl:if or string functions such as
starts-with(' are quicker to grasp because they are present in other
programming languages.

But certain other features like <xsl:templates are quite different from other
programming languages. The concept is very different and that's why
understanding things from scratch (takes time) but, makes programming more
efficient and productive IMO.

I started with these tutorials here, they give a good
foundation, but they're terse.

Personally, I find the w3schools information very useful for looking up
something you one knew but had forgotten, but weak on explaining concepts
when you're first starting.
