While the latter is easier, it does not help us re-use and leverage our
XSL-FO stylesheets, which is something we would like to do.
Have you tried http://fo2wordml.sourceforge.net/ ? It is not perfect and
it doesn't support full XSL-FO, but for many documents it works.
