Ah, I see ... I was imagining that saxon:parse() could cope with
non-well-formed input, but of course it can't. It seems a shame to
introduce a "tag wrapper" in XSLT and then parse it, but I guess you
can't avoid it.
Note, however, that this still doesn't ensure it'll always work. If
your comments are broken, they might be really broken ... for example
