How do I know in a easy way if a node is in a nodelist (for example returned by key())?

in xpath 2 you can use the is operator
key('x','foo')[. is current()]
is true if the current node is in teh sequence returned by the key.

XPath 1 doesn't have is but it can be defined in terns of generate-id so
you can go

key('x','foo')[generate-id(.) = generate-id(current())]
