This can naturally be generalised for N mutually exclusive cases by
simply adding a new row for every additional case in the expression
above:

   (path1)[case1]
 |
   (path2)[case2]

  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

|
   (pathN)[caseN]
