Come to think of it, there's an optimization that might make a big
difference:
(..|preceding::*[1])[last()]
or perhaps:
generate-id(.) = generate-id(key('elem-by-pg', @pg)[1])
which is the same as
. is key('elem-by-pg', @pg)[1]
isn't it?
