I'm currently stuck to use Saxon-B so I guess xsl:strip-space is the way to
go.
I'd be tempted to do that anyway... I'm not keen on the concept of
relying on the input being validated, it's a bit like defaulted
values. Performance improvements through validation are one thing,
different output depending on whether the input was validated is
another.
