Or of course you can arrange that the attribute in the source is called
xml:lang and use the lang() function.
Out of interest, does xml:lang annotate the input tree, or does the
lang() function walk the ancestor axis behind the scenes? Or is it
all implementation dependent?
And possibly OT, why does xml:lang exist - as in, why is there a need
for an inbuilt mechanism compared to a custom solution?
