I use document('') only to perform call-template by it's name, through
variable
<xsl:template name="ra:sayHello"
match="xsl:template[(_at_)name='ra:sayHello']">
<xsl:text>Hello!</xsl:text>
</xsl:template>
...
<xsl:variable name="n" select='ra:sayHello'/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="document('')/*/xsl:template[(_at_)name=$n]">
Why would you want to do that - what problem does it solve?
(you are calling apply-templates on xsl:template and treating it as
input xml, not executing that template...)
