In the above test you are checking that the current node has a
*child* named "elem2", not that the element itself is named "elem2".
The strange thing (for me) is that, if I substitude the <choose> block
with the <otherwise> code, I obtain a result tree identical to source
tree.

When using the identity template, match on the elements you want
changed, providing the construction of the result tree you want in
place of what was there.
