Here is my output requirement.
Case 1:

The refid of grant-number should link to the respective grant-sponsor
one not the first one. If only one grant-sponsor is present then it
should link to the last occurrence of grant-sponsor
It is not clear to me which grant-number elements relates to which
grant-sponsor element.
You might want to show us the output you want to create from the above XML
snippet, then it might become clearer.
