I recently switch from Xalan to XSLT 2.0/Saxon and it seems I have
already forgotten the xalan syntax. It was so clear in my mind too. I
must be getting old(er).

But I think that your first correction should rather be
<redirect:write>
or, as I wrote, <xalan:write>, depending on your choice of prefix for
"org.apache.xalan.xslt.extensions.Redirect".
