I think the major advantage is the separation of data and presentation
layer. For example you could query(XQuery) the database resulting XML
and then attach presentation to that data via XSLT. That way you can
easily change the layout without messing around with the data. Very
critical when designing extensible software. Loads of other examples
with some googling :D
