I'm glad you picked up on that. :-) Trang will generate quite a nice
tight schema against an instance or a set of instances. Even only as a
starter it can be quite useful.
In general, I prefer RelaxNG when using Trang for this sort of thing,
not just because it's better at it than it is with XSD, but also because
I find the results somewhat more tractable using my favorite tools
(including the one that is the nominal and proper topic of this list).
Plus, take a look at Eric Van der Vlist's Examplotron:
