You will have to really know when the value-of can be used instead of
the xsl:apply-templates. This can not be done at all times.

Well, today my data changed under me, and certain aspects got far more
complex. I pulled out the <xsl:value-of to a <xsl:template and wow, the
problem grew far simpler and all but solved itself.
