What is "int" in there, just a hypotetical unqualified type name for the

schema type?

It isn't necessary to specify "xs:int" . If the default namespace is
the XML Schema namespace, then the types of the arguments and return
value of any function of the type:
    function(int, int) as int

is the XML Schema xs:int data-type.

The above type certainly is a bit ambiguous without knowing the context.
