The final generated page uses CSS for styling but the question is about
generating the pages on the server.
By the way - on http://www.fromoldbooks.org/ I hardwire the image size
into the filename, which has its own problems. So these days I pre-
generate an XML file containing the sizes of all my images, and include
it in my BaseX database that in particular drives the search interface.
I wrote, years ago, a short Perl script that makes that file.
