Your uncertainty indicates that it isn't clear enough to be maintained
easily, and i'd want to avoid it.

Part of the XSLT 3 course i have run is the concept i call “the
rhetoric of XSLT”—a consideration of who will be reading the code can
help to determine how “maths” you can make it.
