Since you mentioned my name, to be perfectly precise about
this,...
(1) There is no such thing as a "member" of a working group.
You presumably know this. Since, if I recall, I have made zero
postings, the only evidence you have of my involvement is my
presence on the WG's mailing list.
(2) For a long set of reasons, if the only reason/ justification
for my tracking (or even participating) in the WG was my
knowledge of the Internet standard process, I would be --at best
from your point of view-- completely irrelevant. There are a
few people who think I know something about the subject matter
but, of course, their level of delusion up something for others
to assess.
(3) I have been trying to track the WG's efforts by subscribing
to the mailing list but have, frankly, found that nearly
impossible given that I have other priorities. The message
volume got high enough that I started trying to read things on a
digest basis, at which point I discovered (i) that the digests
were very frequent and very large (partially due to poor email
hygiene on the part of some posters) and (ii) that there are
some serious bugs in the IETF Secretariat mechanisms for
producing digests. They have been unable or unwilling to fix
those bugs, but the result is that they are sending out mail
that is invalid under RFC 2822 (and 822 and earlier). For me,
that is very inconvenient in terms of sorting and tracking the
mail which makes it even more difficult for me to try to track
the WG's efforts. However, those who believe that the essence
of spam-exclusion includes rejecting any message that doesn't
conform to the rather minimal requirements of 2822 are being
systematically excluded from receiving those materials. (For
those who are curious, this is "action" tracking Inquiry #57798.)
Because there are many other pressures on my time right now, the
combination of those factors has resulted in my trying, mostly
in vain, to track the WG's work, but being unable to actually
participate in it. If there are others in a similar situation,
that creates a risk for the community, but this is not the time
or place to resolve it.
