An excellent intermediate solution. Many thanks for that: I have now
implemented it. In case anyone is interested, my current setup is:

I wouldn't suggest using SRS for mailing lists... it's really intended for forwarding to one person. Large mailing lists already rewrite the sender so that the bounces don't go to the original author - they go to a special bounce address so the list admin can remove the dead account.
