I'm not sure I agree with this. There is a technical incompatibility
between the flawed initial assumptions of SPF and the long-established
practice of forwarding mail, but that doesn't mean that mail forwarding
is being abused. Why do you say that it's being abused?

I did not say forwarding is being abused[*], I said the openness
which forwarding has utilized is being abused.

The long-established practice of forwarding mail (of which I am a
practitioner) depends, if done in the traditional manner, on the
willingness of destination sites to accept mail from forwarders with
MAILFROMs unrelated to the forwarder.  That's the openness that's
being widesly abused, and anyone who thinks it isn't must live on some
other planet.

[*] Forwarding does get abused though if the forwarders aren't careful.
