I have encountered the same result
>collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
>make: *** [fetchmail] Error 1
with redhat 6.0.
Both 5.6.0 and 5.6.2 source has the same message.
I use RPM instead.
Sounds like a problem with your system. 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 both compiled
perfectly on my Mandrake 7.02 and 7.2 systems. 5.6.2 compiled with flags to
disable kereberos.
