The man page warns:

The RFC 2177 IDLE support is flaky. It sort of works, but may generate
spurious socket error messages or silently hang in the presence of
various network or server errors.

Can anyone using IDLE report on whether this is still true?

I just built 5.7.4 and am getting the following:

fetchmail-5.7.4: reading message 1 of 1 (1151 header octets) fetchmail-5.7.4:
SI
GPIPE thrown from an MDA or a stream socket error
fetchmail-5.7.4: socket error while fetching from xxxxxxx.cnt.com
fetchmail-5.7.4: Query status=2 (SOCKET)
fetchmail-5.7.4: terminated with signal 13

Let me know if you'd like me to try debugging this further.

Yes, please!

Such are a well regulated militia, composed of the freeholders,
citizen and husbandman, who take up arms to preserve their property,
as individuals, and their rights as freemen.
