Re: [fetchmail]Strange error

2001-04-09 11:47:16
Chris Green <chris(_at_)areti(_dot_)co(_dot_)uk>:
Fetchamil is reporting the following on one particular message:-

    1 message for chris(_at_)isbd(_dot_)fsnet(_dot_)co(_dot_)uk at
pop.freeserve.net (988 octets).
reading message 1 of 1 (988 octets) fetchmail: Query status=10 (SMTP)

In the mail it sends to me about this error it says something about
"Can't even send to chris!".

Other messages on other POP servers are being collected OK and, when
I removed the offending messages, other messages from the same POP
server came through OK.

I removed the offending message by reading it directly from the POP
server using mutt, it looks quite innocuous, no attachments, no funny
MIME or anything.

Why couldn't fetchmail fetch it?

That query status 10 indicates that your SMTP listener barfed on the merssage.
Fetchmail is conservative and doesnb't delete the message when that happened.

There's a truism that the road to Hell is often paved with good intentions.
The corollary is that evil is best known not by its motives but by its
*methods*.
